19th Century French Silver-Plated Bread Basket with Grape and Vine Decor
$695
About
This elegant antique bread basket brings refined French style and sculptural detail to the dining table. Crafted in France circa 1870, the oval silver-plated tray features an open framework, gracefully curved sides, and two integrated handles for convenient serving.
The basket is richly embellished with grape clusters, curling vines, and textured leaves worked in high relief, motifs traditionally associated with abundance, hospitality, and wine culture. Four decorative feet elevate the basket slightly above the table, while the warm patinated silver finish emphasizes the depth and character of the ornamentation. A silver manufacturer’s mark on the underside provides further authentication.
Originally intended for serving baguettes, rolls, or crackers, this versatile antique basket could also hold fruit, folded napkins, or decorative objects. Placed in a wine cellar or wet bar, it would make a distinctive container for collected wine corks. Its generous proportions and intricate design give it enough presence to serve as a centerpiece when not in use.
The French bread basket is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with a rich patinated silver finish.
