19th C. French Louis XVI Giltwood Mirror with Oval Insert and Laurel Crest
$2,400
About
Decorate a foyer, mantel, or powder room with this striking Louis XVI-style giltwood mirror. Crafted in France circa 1870, the mirror features a rectangular form surmounted by a sculptural crest, richly carved with crossed ribbons, laurel leaves, and a central oval insert mirror. The frame is decorated with classic neoclassical motifs, including beaded trim, fluted corners, and vertical foliate drops, all highlighted in a warm, time-worn gold leaf finish. A unique feature of this mirror is the small oval mirror set within the crest, creating a “mirror within mirror” effect that adds depth and intrigue. The base corners are accented with stylized acanthus elements and wrapped in verdigris-painted feet and side flourishes, offering a subtle contrast to the gold finish. The antique mirror retains its original wooden back and displays beautiful age-appropriate wear and patina, with minor surface inconsistencies that enhance its antique character. Measuring 27 inches wide by 2 inches deep and 46 inches high, this decorative piece is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use. A refined and timeless mirror perfect for both traditional and transitional interiors.
