19th C. French Parisian Travel Trunk Coffee Table with Brass and Iron Hardware
$3,200
About
This handsome antique French travel trunk was crafted in Paris in the late 19th century and bears its original brass retailer’s plaque reading “Articles de Voyage – Ruel Jeune, Paris, Bazar de l’Hôtel de Ville”, attesting to its provenance as a high-quality luggage piece produced for fashionable travel. Built primarily of poplar, a lightweight yet durable wood traditionally favored for fine French trunks, the case is reinforced with darkened iron straps and corner mounts and fitted throughout with brass hardware, rivets, and clasps, all retaining a rich, time-worn patina. The exterior displays beautifully aged wood panels with warm tonal variation, surface marks, and scuffs consistent with extensive historical use, enhancing its authentic antique character. Leather side handles remain intact, and the trunk opens smoothly to reveal a clean, light-colored interior, complete with its original removable fitted tray and fabric securing straps. The lid interior features the original cord lattice, designed to hold documents or garments during travel. In excellent condition commensurate with age and use, this antique trunk is both decorative and functional. It is ideal for use as a coffee table, blanket chest, or storage piece at the foot of a bed, while also serving as a striking decorative accent in traditional, eclectic, or travel-inspired interiors. Dimensions: 36.5″W x 19.25″D x 17.5″H
