19th C. French Two-Tone Bronze Virgin Mary Wall Medallion with Gilt Ribbon Crest
$1,200
About
This refined devotional medallion was cast in France circa 1870 and features a finely sculpted profile of the Virgin Mary in patinated bronze. Her serene visage is framed by a gilt halo and accented by a delicately rendered olive branch, symbolizing peace and purity. The dual-tone finish, darkened bronze and warm gilt, lends striking depth and contrast to the relief. Encased in a round gilt bronze frame with a beaded edge and classical patterning, the medallion is suspended from an ornamental ribbon-tied crest, also finished in bright ormolu. The flowing ribbon and hanging elements are crisply detailed, adding vertical emphasis and an air of Louis XVI elegance. Measuring 4 inches wide by 0.5 inches deep and 8 inches high, this antique French wall piece is a beautifully preserved example of 19th-century bronze artistry. Excellent condition commensurate with age and use. Ideal for a devotional space, a neoclassical vignette, or as part of a curated wall display.
