This elegant antique “Chaise de Fumeur” or smoking chair was crafted in France, circa 1880. This rich oak chair stands on two front scroll legs ending with paw feet and barley twist legs in the back. The seating features exquisite carvings on the facade including a dog face sculpture in the center surrounded by intricate pierced carved foliage. The top armrest and the seat are dressed with cushioned tan leather upholstery and embellished with decorative brass nail heads. The armrest decorated with two carved crossed pipes, lifts up and reveals a storage compartment for cigars, cutters and matches. The Black Forest chair is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich dark walnut patina; a wonderful addition to a man’s office or study! Chairs like this were carved for aristocrats to enjoy their pipes and cigars in a unique and elegant way. Measures: 18″ W x 17.5″ D x 32.5″ H.
