19th Century French Delft Blue and White Faience Oil Lamp with Brass Mounts
$990
About
Crafted in France circa 1880, this elegant antique “Lampe à Pétrole” combines hand-painted faience with richly detailed brass mounts in the Napoleon III taste. The baluster-form ceramic body is decorated in deep cobalt blue on a creamy white ground, depicting romantic pastoral and waterside scenes with figures, sailboats, trees, and distant windmills in the traditional Delft manner. Delicate scrolling floral borders frame the imagery and add further refinement to the composition.
The vessel is mounted with ornate gilt brass fittings, including a pierced oil burner, foliate collar, and decorative shell-form feet, all retaining a warm aged patina. Newly wired to US standards, the lamp is ready for use and offers an elegant accent for a console, bedside table, or bibliothèque. Shade shown for display purposes only and not included.
The antique lamp remains in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns rich blue and white tones contrasted by a warm gilt bronze finish.
