A refined example of a traditional French rafraîchissoir, this antique walnut table was designed as a convenient serving station for chilled wine or Champagne. Crafted in France circa 1840, the square table reflects the restrained elegance of the Louis Philippe period, with clean lines, warm walnut tones, and practical proportions.

The top is inset with a beautifully figured grey and white veined marble slab fitted with two removable metal bottle wells, originally intended to hold wine bottles surrounded by ice. Below, a shallow drawer fitted with a simple ring pull provides storage for serving accessories. Four slender turned legs support the case and are joined by a useful lower shelf, adding both stability and additional display space.

The combination of walnut, marble, and metal gives the piece considerable decorative character while preserving its original practical purpose. Today, the rafraîchissoir could serve equally well as a side table, occasional table, or distinctive dry bar in a wine cellar, dining room, or living space. The two removable wells could also be adapted as a double cache-pot or jardinière for small plants.

The antique table is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use and retains a warm, attractive walnut patina.
