Early 20th Century French Directoire Brass and Bronze Two-Tier Guéridon Table
$4,400
About
Combining graceful neoclassical lines with finely detailed metalwork, this antique French guéridon table features a circular black stone top supported by a sculptural brass and bronze frame. Crafted in France circa 1920, the two-tier occasional table reflects the restrained ornamentation of the Directoire style, with its balanced proportions and decorative classical motifs.
The round tabletop is inset within a brass surround embellished with delicate beaded borders. Three slender, outward-curving legs descend from the upper rim, each accented with graceful scrolling volutes beneath the top and terminating in finely detailed paw feet with acanthus leaf decoration. A smaller circular black stone shelf is positioned midway down the frame, providing an additional display surface while complementing the larger tabletop.
The lower section is connected by a graceful three-part curved stretcher, centered by a decorative acorn-shaped finial resting on a fluted circular base. The warm golden finish of the brass and bronze structure contrasts beautifully with the dark stone surfaces, emphasizing the table’s delicate silhouette and architectural detailing.
The antique guéridon is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, retaining a rich patinated gilt finish. With its refined proportions and practical two-tier design, this decorative French side table would make an attractive addition beside a sofa, armchair, or in an entryway.
