19th Century French Repousse Brass Oil Table Lamp with Tavern Scenes
This elegant antique oil lamp made into table lamp was crafted in France, circa 1870. The tall “Lampe a Petrole”, stands on three paw feet over a round repousse base decorated with acanthus leaf motifs. The intricate brass stem is decorated with outstanding and detailed craftsmanship including a rooster and cat motif and two interior cabaret scenes in the manner of David Teniers. The top features the original oil knob. The tall Napoleon III fixture with new wiring and dressed with the original circular beige shade is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich patinated brass finish. Use this intricate light as a bedside table lamp or place it in a corner on a small cabinet. Shade included. Measures: 7″ diameter 33″ height.
