Towering at an impressive nine feet, this antique French longcase, or grandfather clock, was crafted in Lyon circa 1760 and is a handsome example of Louis XV provincial craftsmanship. Built of richly grained walnut, the tall case is constructed in two sections and features a molded domed bonnet, paneled sides, and a long architectural body accented with hand-carved floral decoration.

The upper case encloses a white enamel dial with Roman numerals and pierced gilt hands, framed by an elaborate pierced brass surround decorated with scrolling foliage, flowers, and a basket-form crest. Glazed side panels provide additional views of the movement.

The long central door opens to reveal the original cast-iron weights and decorative brass pendulum, visible through the circular glazed aperture on the front. A paneled lower section and molded plinth base complete the stately silhouette.

The movement has been cleaned and checked and is in excellent working condition. Weights, pendulum, and winding key are included. Excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with a warm walnut patina developed over more than two centuries.
