Mid-Century Italian Capodimonte Style Porcelain Figural Group by Benrose
$1,150
About
Bring romantic Italian elegance to a console, mantel, or center table with this large hand-painted porcelain figural group crafted in Italy circa 1950. Executed in the Capodimonte taste and marked “Benrose,” the sculptural composition depicts a graceful young couple in flowing classical dress, captured in a tender moment inspired by 18th-century Rococo and neoclassical themes.
The seated maiden reclines beside overturned amphora vessels while her companion bends toward her with an expressive gesture of concern and affection. Richly draped garments finished in luminous gilt contrast beautifully against the delicate porcelain skin tones and finely detailed facial features. The movement of the cascading robes gives the piece exceptional depth and theatrical presence from every angle.
The elaborate scrolling base is adorned with hand-painted roses, foliage, and shell motifs, further enhancing the decorative quality of the sculpture. Subtle distressing and light wear to the gilt surfaces add warmth and character, giving the piece the appearance of an earlier antique Continental porcelain figure.
Marked “Made in Italy” and “Benrose” underneath, this impressive Capodimonte-style centerpiece is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and retains rich polychrome decoration and beautifully aged gilt accents throughout.
