Early 19th Century French Normandy Painted Longcase Grandfather Clock
$4,500
About
Command attention in an entry, living room, or hallway with this impressive antique French longcase clock from Normandy, crafted circa 1820. The tall oak case showcases exceptional hand-carved decoration, highlighted by a richly detailed floral basket crest at the pediment, framed by radiating foliage and continuing with carved botanical motifs down the trunk. A sculpted floral medallion centers the door, reinforcing the elegant, regional craftsmanship associated with Saint Nicholas clocks from Northern France.
The original movement features a porcelain dial with Roman numerals and ornate hands, recently cleaned and serviced for proper function, and retains its original brass pendulum visible through the glazed aperture. The case has been professionally refreshed in a soft two-tone palette of pale blue-grey and off-white, with a tastefully distressed finish that enhances the depth of the carvings and lends a refined, timeworn character.
This antique clock is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and offers both decorative impact and functional charm. A striking vertical element ideal for anchoring a space with authentic French presence.
