$3,600
About
Decorate a bedroom, entry, or living room with this elegant antique French Louis XVI style chiffonier. Crafted in France circa 1920 by André Mailfert, the narrow chest is built of warm mahogany and features a white inset marble top surrounded by a pierced gilt-metal three-quarter gallery with shaped side handles. The case is fitted with five drawers, each dressed with brass molding and centered with a decorative round brass pull. The front is flanked by fluted rounded corner posts, continuing down to tapered fluted legs ending on brass cap feet.
The sides are finished with inset panels bordered by brass trim, giving the piece a refined look from every angle. The back panel retains the typical André Mailfert salamander fire stamp, a branded mark associated with his workshop and found on many of his period-style furniture pieces. André Mailfert (1884-1943) was a French cabinetmaker and founder of the Ateliers d’Art in Orléans, known for producing high-quality early 20th Century copies of French period furniture inspired by Louis XV, Louis XVI, and Empire models. His branded pieces remain collected today for their decorative charm, traditional craftsmanship, and faithful interpretation of earlier French styles.
The semainier is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use.
