This colorful antique majolica charger was crafted in France circa 1860 and features a finely hand-painted pastoral scene inspired by the elegant fête champêtre tradition of the 18th century. The large circular platter depicts a lively outdoor gathering beside a stream, with fashionably dressed figures and children assembled around a seated gentleman, while additional figures approach from a garden terrace in the background. Architectural elements, mature trees, and a small boat along the water complete the picturesque composition.

Rendered in soft yet vibrant shades of pink, blue, green, ochre, and lavender, the detailed scene is framed by a broad deep cobalt-blue border accented with a narrow gilt band. The reverse is finished in white glaze and bears the maker’s mark, appearing to read “L. M. & Cie.”

The charger is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with attractive surface character consistent with 19th-century hand-painted ceramics. Its generous scale and richly colored decoration make it especially appealing displayed on a wall, atop a console, or as a decorative centerpiece.
