Mid-18th Century French Louis XV Carved Walnut Tall Case Clock from Lyon
$8,900
About
Towering at an impressive 9 feet, this monumental Louis XV antique longcase clock was crafted in Lyon, France, circa 1760. Fashioned from richly grained walnut, the piece is constructed in two sections for ease of transport and display. Its bonnet is crowned with a domed cornice and flanked by side glass panels, allowing visibility of the ornate face framed in pierced gilt brass with floral, foliate, and basket motifs. The white enamel dial features Roman numerals and delicate pierced hands. The central case displays elegant hand-carved floral ornamentation and a glass-paneled door revealing the original cast iron weights and decorative brass pendulum. Below, the paneled lower section rests on a wide plinth base, completing the stately silhouette. A winding key accompanies the clock, which is in excellent working condition. An exceptional antique timepiece for a foyer, library, or salon, this 18th-century French horological treasure unites functional precision with sculptural elegance. Measures 20”W x 13”D x 108”H.
