About
Bring cheerful Breton character to a table, kitchen, or wall display with this colorful faience fish platter. Crafted in France circa 1950, the ceramic serving dish is made in the traditional Quimper manner and features a whimsical fish-shaped form with molded fins, scalloped edges, and a vibrant hand-painted yellow ground. The central reserve is decorated with a classic Breton couple in traditional costume, surrounded by stylized flowers, foliage, birds, and decorative borders in blue, green, orange, and red tones.
The platter is marked on the underside “HB Quimper France,” one of the most recognized names in Quimper faience, known for its hand-painted Breton figures, lively regional decoration, and colorful folk-art pottery produced in Brittany. The back is fitted with a later wire hanger, allowing the piece to be displayed on a wall as well as used decoratively on a stand or tabletop. This antique-style faience platter is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with rich colors and a wonderful glazed finish.
