Set of 3 Early 20th Century French Art Deco Gilt Iron Nesting Tables
$1,295
About
Elegant and sculptural, this set of three antique French nesting tables combines graceful Art Deco lines with neoclassical inspiration. Crafted in France circa 1930, the tables gigognes are fashioned of hand-forged iron with a warm gilt finish and fitted with rectangular black mirrored glass tops.
Each table stands on distinctive curule-form supports, their sweeping arcs intersecting beneath the top and continuing into elegantly curved feet. The sides are joined at the center by decorative wrapped-metal collars resembling rope bindings, an unusual detail that gives the otherwise restrained frames additional texture and character. The slim profiles and open construction create an airy silhouette while allowing the three tables to nest neatly beneath one another when not in use.
The dark reflective glass surfaces provide a striking contrast to the aged gold-toned iron and give the ensemble a sophisticated 1930s appearance. Displayed together or separated throughout a room, the tables work beautifully as occasional tables beside a sofa or lounge chairs.
The set is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with a rich time-worn gilt patina and minor surface wear consistent with its antique character.
