Mid-Century Louis XV Floral Marquetry Mahogany Writing Table with Brass Accents
$1,600
About
Graceful curves and colorful floral marquetry give this Mid-Century Louis XV style writing desk an elegant decorative presence. Crafted in France, circa 1970, the table features a shaped serpentine top veneered in richly toned mahogany and embellished with three framed floral compositions, including a prominent central bouquet surrounded by scrolling vines and blossoms. A molded brass border follows the undulating outline of the top and emphasizes its refined silhouette.
The scalloped apron is fitted with three functional drawers, each decorated with coordinating floral marquetry and finished with a round brass pull. The interiors are lined in burgundy fabric, offering practical storage for writing materials and personal accessories. Raised on four slender cabriole legs, the desk terminates in decorative bronze foliate sabots. Floral motifs continue along the sides and apron, allowing the piece to be appreciated from multiple viewpoints.
In excellent condition commensurate with age and use, this versatile desk could also serve as a dressing table, vanity, console, or occasional table in a bedroom, study, or living room.
