Mid-Century French Louis XV Style Iron and Crystal Four-Light Lantern
$1,600
About
Crafted in France circa 1970, this tall square-form ceiling lantern combines an architectural wrought iron frame with colorful crystal pendants. The open cage is crowned by an elaborate arrangement of scrolling ironwork and continues with gracefully curved supports enriched with pierced acanthus leaves, floral motifs, and curled tendrils characteristic of the Louis XV style.
Clusters of multicolored crystal drops decorate the lantern throughout, including charming bunches of grapes in shades of amethyst, rose, amber, green, blue, and clear crystal. Additional pendants suspended along the upper and lower sections catch and reflect the light, bringing color and movement to the sculptural iron framework. Four interior lights are arranged around the central stem and fitted with decorative candle sleeve covers.
The vintage French lantern has been newly wired to meet American standards and is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use. It retains a richly patinated bronze-painted finish accented with touches of gilt. A canopy, loop, and chain will be added and color-matched to the fixture.
