Pair of 19th Century French Carved and Painted Wall Curtain Tieback Sculptures
$2,600
About
Bring dramatic French theatrical charm to a wall with this impressive pair of antique carved and painted curtain tieback sculptures. Crafted in France circa 1880, each large wall-mounted decoration is hand-carved in wood in the form of an elaborate draped curtain gathered around a bold central rosette medallion and secured with twisted rope tassels. The deeply carved folds, scrolling movement, and layered fringe create a strong sense of motion and dimensionality, reminiscent of grand opera house or château interiors.
The pair retains its original hand-painted polychrome finish in a warm terracotta palette accented with gilt highlights along the fringe and tassel details. Extensive surface distressing and age wear throughout enhance the authentic antique character and add exceptional texture and depth. Their monumental vertical scale makes these sculptural carvings ideal flanking a mirror, doorway, tapestry, or large window in a living room, library, or formal entry.
The wall-mounted sculptures are in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorn a beautifully weathered patinated finish with rich old-world character. Hooks in the back for easy installation.
