Richly sculpted in the Louis XV tradition, this pair of antique cast iron jardinières features an elegant combination of Rococo curves and naturalistic ornament. Crafted in France circa 1880, each oval planter is signed “Dechenard” on the underside and raised on four short scrolled feet beneath a gracefully bombé body.

The façades are decorated in high relief with elaborate floral and foliate motifs surrounding a central cartouche, while shellwork, scrolling acanthus leaves, and deeply molded details continue around the sides. A pierced gallery beneath the undulating scalloped rim lends visual lightness to the substantial cast iron construction. The shaped openings make the vessels suitable for holding plants or floral arrangements, while their sculptural quality also allows them to be displayed as decorative cache pots.

Both jardinières are in excellent condition commensurate with age and use. Their richly aged dark iron surfaces retain rubbed silver-toned highlights that accentuate the depth and crispness of the casting. Whether placed in a conservatory, entrance hall, covered veranda, or garden room, the matching vessels embody the decorative refinement associated with 19th-century French ornamental metalwork.
