Pair of 19th Century French Neoclassical Hand Painted “Porcelaine de Paris” Urns
$2,600
About
This refined pair of antique French Porcelaine de Paris urns was crafted in France in the late 19th century, circa 1890. Each urn features a rich ruby red ground embellished with extensive hand-applied gilt decoration, including scrolling foliate motifs, dotted borders, and classical ornament. The elegant baluster form is accented with twin gilt handles terminating in spiral scrolls and raised leaf detailing, and each piece rests on a square plinth base trimmed in gold. Both urns are centered with finely hand-painted scenic reserves depicting tranquil pastoral river landscapes with figures and architectural ruins, rendered in soft tones and framed within raised gilt cartouches. Additional floral medallions adorn the necks and bases, providing balance and visual richness to the overall composition. The interiors are finished in white glazed porcelain. The undersides bear Paris porcelain atelier marks, including a JTP Paris triangle mark and a France designation, consistent with high-quality Paris workshop production. These antique urns are in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with vibrant coloration and well-preserved gilding. Decorative and versatile, this elegant pair is ideal for display on a mantel, console, or sideboard, bringing classical French refinement and strong visual impact to both traditional and transitional interiors. Dimensions: 9″W x 7″D x 18″H
