19th Century Black Forest Carved Walnut Stag and Deer Figural Mantel Clock
$7,800
About
This exceptional Black Forest mantel clock, crafted in Switzerland circa 1860 from rich walnut, showcases masterful carving and grand scale. The elaborate composition features a proud stag with full antlers standing beside a doe, both rendered with remarkable anatomical detail. Beneath them, a recumbent fawn rests peacefully among deeply carved oak leaves, pine boughs, and forest foliage. The original circular wooden clock face, set into a carved tree trunk, features inset Roman numeral markers and sits above the concealed pendulum compartment at the back. In good working condition, the clock retains its original movement and comes complete with winding key and pendulum. Measuring an impressive 33 inches high, 21.5 inches wide, and 8 inches deep, this monumental carving embodies the artistry and craftsmanship associated with 19th century Black Forest work. The warm walnut patina enhances the lifelike textures of fur and foliage, making it a striking statement for a lodge, hunting room, or collector of fine European woodcarvings. Excellent condition, commensurate with age and use.
