Early 20th Century French Louis XV Painted Oak Wall Console Table
$3,600
About
Decorate an entry hall, dining room, or den with this elegant antique wall console table crafted in the Louis XV taste circa 1920. Built of solid oak, the long narrow table stands on two graceful cabriole legs ending in carved scroll feet and is richly embellished throughout with hand-carved shell, foliate, and rocaille motifs typical of the Louis XV period. The scalloped apron is centered with an impressive carved shell cartouche flanked by flowing acanthus leaves, while the corners and knees are dressed with additional floral carvings that add movement and refinement.
The console retains a beautifully distressed painted finish in soft cream tones with subtle rubbed edges and intentional wear revealing hints of the wood beneath, giving the piece wonderful texture and a warm European character. The generous rectangular top with molded edge offers ample display space for lamps, porcelain, or decorative objects, while the narrow depth makes it especially versatile behind a sofa, in a hallway, or beneath a large mirror.
The antique console is sturdy, well carved, and in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with a beautifully weathered painted surface and elegant proportions throughout.
