Early 20th Century French Gilt Tole Three-Light Chandelier with Glass Flowers
$1,600
About
This delicate antique floral chandelier combines the warmth of gilt metal with colorful hand-fashioned glass blossoms, creating an airy and highly decorative French lighting fixture. Crafted in France circa 1920, the three-light chandelier is designed in the Louis XV / Rococo Revival style, with graceful scrolling lines, naturalistic foliage, and the fluid movement characteristic of Rococo-inspired decoration.
The slender central standard is surrounded by curling tole branches, acanthus leaves, flower cups, and climbing vines. Applied glass flowers and leaves in vivid shades of cobalt blue, turquoise, pink, green, amber, and clear crystal add a lively jewel-like quality, catching and reflecting the light beautifully against the softly aged gilt finish.
Three candle arms curve outward from the lower body and terminate in foliate bobeches fitted with candle sleeves. Its petite proportions make the fixture especially well suited for a powder room, dressing room, entry, hallway, or intimate bedroom setting.
The chandelier has been rewired for use in the United States. A matching canopy and chain will be added and professionally color-matched to the fixture for a cohesive finished appearance. The piece is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with attractive patina and minor surface wear consistent with its antique character.
