18th Century French Louis XV Cherry Commode Sauteuse with Bronze Mounts
$3,500
About
This elegant antique commode sauteuse, crafted in Burgundy circa 1780, showcases the refined proportions and understated charm of French Louis XV provincial furniture.
Built of solid cherry wood, the chest features a warm, luminous fruitwood patina with beautiful tonal variation across the top and façade. The rectangular top sits above two generously scaled drawers, each framed with molded panels and fitted with original gilt bronze pulls and escutcheons decorated with floral and foliate motifs, adding a subtle decorative contrast to the simplicity of the wood.
The case is raised on graceful cabriole legs ending in traditional escargot feet, joined by a shaped and scalloped apron centered with a hand-carved reserve. Paneled sides reinforce the clean, architectural form, while the visible pegged construction and hand-cut dovetail joinery inside the drawers speak to its 18th-century craftsmanship.
With its balanced scale and versatile depth, this antique commode works beautifully in a bedroom, entry, or living space, offering both storage and a strong decorative presence.
Excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with a rich, time-softened patina and minor surface wear consistent with its 18th-century origin. Drawers have been restored and function smoothly.
