Elegant and highly functional, this antique Louis Philippe rafraîchissoir was originally designed as a refreshing station for chilling and serving wine. Crafted in France circa 1840, the square table is built of walnut and stands on four turned legs terminating in brass casters.

The top is fitted with a richly patterned dark gray veined marble slab featuring two circular openings. Each opening holds a removable metal cooler bucket with its original fitted lid, allowing bottles of Champagne or white wine to be surrounded by ice. A discreet central drawer beneath the top provides storage for corkscrews, napkins, and other serving accessories.

Two lower shelves retain their handwoven cane panels, offering additional space for bottles, glasses, or barware while maintaining the table’s light and graceful appearance. The warm walnut grain, restrained Louis Philippe lines, and contrasting marble surface give the piece an appealing balance of elegance and practicality.

This petite occasional table is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use and displays a rich walnut patina. Perfect beside a dining table or sofa, it could also serve as a distinctive dry bar in a wine cellar. For an alternative use, the removable containers could hold live plants, transforming the table into a double cache pot or jardinière.
