Charming in both scale and subject, this antique porcelain charger captures the pastoral beauty of the French countryside. Crafted in France circa 1870, the large round platter is entirely hand-painted with a tranquil landscape depicting a flock of sheep grazing and drinking beside a winding stream beneath mature trees. In the distance, a shepherdess watches over the flock, adding depth and narrative to the idyllic rural scene.

The artist has rendered the landscape in soft greens, blues, lavender, and earthy tones, with particularly fine detailing throughout the foliage, water, tree bark, and individual sheep. A sweeping old tree dominates the composition, its spreading branches creating a dramatic natural canopy over the scene. The painting is signed “Olivier” at the lower left.

A delicate gilt band encircles the edge, providing an elegant finish and framing the colorful pastoral composition. The charger is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, retaining bright, vivid colors and wonderful decorative presence. Measuring nearly 18 inches in diameter, it would display beautifully on a wall, plate stand, or easel in a kitchen, dining room, breakfast room, or country-inspired interior.
