19th Century Spanish Baroque Walnut Console Table Desk with Single-Plank Top
$2,900
About
Distinguished by its unusually slender proportions and rhythmic turned construction, this antique Spanish console table combines architectural presence with exceptional versatility. Crafted in Spain circa 1860, the rectangular table is built of solid walnut in the Spanish Baroque tradition.
The top is fashioned from a single broad plank of walnut, a desirable construction detail that showcases the generous scale and quality of the original timber. Framed by a subtly molded edge, the surface reveals expressive grain, warm tonal variation, and a deep, time-softened patina acquired over more than 160 years.
The table stands on four finely bobbin-turned legs punctuated by square block joints and terminating in small turned feet. A substantial H-form stretcher, composed of matching ring-turned supports and centered by a distinctive square block, strengthens the frame while creating a balanced and sculptural silhouette. The restrained design allows the craftsmanship and rich walnut surface to remain the focus.
Narrow enough for an entryway or hallway, this versatile antique table could also serve as a writing desk, sofa table, library table, dining-room server, or console beneath a mirror or painting. The piece is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use and retains a rich walnut patina with authentic surface wear and character.
