Early 20th Century French Spelter Crucifix with Ornate Base and Foliated Cross
$750
About
Add a sense of reverence and grandeur to any sacred or decorative space with this highly detailed altar crucifix. Crafted in France circa 1920, and made of spelter with a silver-toned finish, the piece features an expressive figure of Christ upon an elaborately foliated cross, richly adorned with scrolls, acanthus leaves, and floral embellishments. At the center of the cross, the medallion bearing the “INRI” inscription is framed by ornate rosettes and gothic detailing. The shaft is finely decorated and gracefully transitions to an intricately cast base with four claw feet, cabochon accents, and deeply scrolled reliefs that echo Baroque and Rococo influences. The reverse is left plain, showing natural age wear and patina consistent with time and devotional use. In very good condition, this altar crucifix remains structurally sound and visually impressive, making it a striking addition to a private chapel, devotional display, or collection of religious artifacts. 16.5″H
