Mid-Century Dutch Delft Blue and White Lidded Ceramic Vase by Maastricht
$625
About
Featuring traditional Dutch countryside scenes and intricate floral decoration, this vintage Delft-style covered vase was crafted in Holland circa 1960. Made of glazed ceramic, the tall baluster-shaped vessel features rounded shoulders, a slender neck, and a gracefully tapered body resting on a circular flared base. The vase is topped with a removable domed lid decorated with scrolling foliage and finished with a pointed finial.
The decorative blue and white composition features two pastoral scenes framed within large oval medallions. Each vignette depicts traditional Dutch rural life, with farmers tending to horses along a country road surrounded by trees and lush vegetation. The finely detailed scenes are complemented by elaborate floral arrangements, stylized leaves, scrolling acanthus motifs, and geometric borders extending around the shoulders, neck, and lower body. The contrasting shades of cobalt blue against the white glazed background create the distinctive appearance associated with traditional Delft pottery.
The underside bears the manufacturer’s blue printed mark reading “Société Céramique Maastricht, Made in Holland, Rustique,” identifying the piece as part of the Rustique decorative series produced in Maastricht, the Netherlands. Société Céramique was an important Dutch pottery manufacturer established in the 19th century, known for its extensive production of decorative ceramics and tableware.
The vintage covered jar is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with a glossy glazed finish and attractive blue and white decoration. Displayed on a mantel, buffet, console, or bookshelf, this decorative Dutch ceramic vase brings a traditional European accent to an interior.
