Pair of 19th Century French Empire Gilt Bronze Four-Light Candelabras
$1,600
About
Add a touch of classical French refinement to a mantel, console, or dining table with this pair of antique Empire style candelabras. Crafted in France circa 1880, each tall candlestick combines finely chased gilt bronze ornamentation with a contrasting dark patinated shaft, creating a striking two-tone appearance.
Each candelabrum stands on a shaped triangular base decorated with a molded leaf border and elaborate scrolling acanthus motifs. The slender, tapering black column is embellished with finely cast gilt bronze capitals and foliate decorations at both ends. Above, three graceful scrolling arms surround a central candleholder, forming a balanced four-light composition. Each candle socket is designed in the form of a classical urn, embellished with fluted details, acanthus leaves, and decorative drip pans. The intricate scrollwork and symmetrical arrangement reflect the neoclassical influence characteristic of the French Empire style.
The antique candelabras are in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and retain their rich gilt bronze finish beautifully contrasted by the dark patinated columns. Their tall proportions and finely detailed craftsmanship make them a wonderful addition to a fireplace mantel, dining room buffet, or traditional library. Displayed together, they create an impressive decorative statement with or without candles.
