Set of 3 Napoleon III Ebonized Side Chairs with Cane Seats and Gilt Chinoiseries
$1,950
About
This elegant set of three side chairs was crafted in France during the Napoleon III period, circa 1870. The chairs feature an ebonized wood finish highlighted with intricate gilt and hand-painted chinoiserie motifs, including pavilions, figures, and stylized floral elements. Each turned spindle back is accented with gilt details and traces of mother-of-pearl inlay, though some areas show expected loss consistent with age. The shaped seats are hand-caned and remain structurally sound, with removable salmon-colored button-tufted cushions adding both comfort and a soft pop of color. The legs are finely turned and connected by decorative stretchers, contributing to the chairs’ visual balance and refinement. Measuring 16 inches wide by 17.5 inches deep and 32.75 inches high, with a seat height of 18.5 inches with cushion (17 inches without), this decorative trio is in good condition overall, with minor wear to the lacquer and inlay. A charming and versatile set that works beautifully in a bedroom, parlor, or as occasional chairs in a hallway or entryway. Could be sold separately.
